So I finally broke down and fed into the feather extension trend. At first I thought it was kind of silly looking and a desperate attempt to copy Steven Tyler. So my sister got a few put in the other day and I was actually impressed at how they came out so I decided I would indulge in some feathers for Heather. Now before you go and try this new trend I have some tips...
Tip #1 Go for a natural look. I have light brown hair so I chose feathers in shades of brown, black and a yellowish cream. Fight the urge for the hot pink and lime green. Although they are a fun look for a night out, I don't think your boss would appreciate you showing up at work everyday with pink and green feathers in your hair. My boss would think it's cool but not everyone is the same way.
Tip #2 Don't overdue it. 2 or 3 feathers will suffice but any more than 5 and your gonna look like a bird. And you'll get stares from people and not in a good way.
Tip #3 Choose the right spot for application. Your stylist should have a good suggestion but placement is key. Most people get them applied behind the ear if you have long hair. Others apply them close to your part towards your face. If you part your hair to the right, apply them on the left and vice versa.
Tip #4 DIY: If you're not down for paying $10 a feather for a professional to apply, buy the feathers yourself. Famous Feathers online sells all you need to create the look. Most sets are $9.99. I bought 6 large grizzly feathers on Etsy for $9.50 and they came with 3 beads and a loop. All you need is a pair of needle nose pliers and you're ready to go!
